In desktop FDM 3D printing, ordinary PLA filament for 3D printing often faces a dilemma: either the printing speed cannot be increased, or at high speeds, surface quality deteriorates, and interlayer adhesion weakens. After analyzing extensive user feedback, NextShapes discovered that the market truly needs a basic PLA filament—one that combines high strength and good hardness with smooth surface finish, extremely low shrinkage, stable printing, broad compatibility with most FDM 3D printers, and genuine support for high-speed 3D printing. After multiple rounds of formulation and rheological optimization, NextShapes has launched the Standard PLA filament for 3D printing.
Performance Data
Test results show that Standard PLA achieves a tensile strength of 56 MPa (ASTM D638M), flexural strength of 76.7 MPa (ASTM D790), flexural modulus of 2100 MPa, notched impact strength of 38 J/m, Shore D hardness of 81 D, and a shrinkage rate in the XY direction of only -0.1% to +0.1%, virtually zero shrinkage. A senior user who participated in early testing shared her experience:

"I’ve tried many so-called 'high-speed' PLA filaments for 3D printing, and once the outer wall speed exceeds 150 mm/s, the model surface usually shows visible vibration marks or uneven extrusion. But Standard PLA is completely different—I printed a complex turbine housing at 150 mm/s outer wall speed, 350 mm/s inner wall speed, and even 450 mm/s infill speed, and the surface of the 3D printed part remained smooth, with dimensional accuracy within ±0.1 mm. This literally doubled my efficiency when facing tight project deadlines."

Beyond mechanical properties, Standard PLA also excels in printing parameter tolerance.
NextShapes’ R&D lead commented:
"We did not blindly pursue extreme values for a single indicator; we aimed to return to the essence of PLA: stable, fast, and easy to use. By controlling melt flow index (7–10 g/10 min at 190°C/2.16 kg) and roundness tolerance, we ensure smooth flow even during high-speed extrusion. With extremely low shrinkage and good heat distortion temperature (53°C), it hardly warps, allowing users to successfully 3D print without an enclosed chamber. For educational and creative design scenarios, this means teachers and students can spend their time creating, not adjusting 3D printers."

Technical Features
- Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength 56 MPa (ASTM D638M), tensile modulus 2700 MPa, elongation at break 4–6%, flexural strength 76.7 MPa (ASTM D790), flexural modulus 2100 MPa, notched impact strength 38 J/m (ASTM D256), Shore D hardness 81 D (ASTM D2241). Provides excellent strength and deformation resistance, suitable for structural parts and functional prototypes in 3D printing.
- Surface Quality: Proprietary additive formula ensures uniform layer adhesion; 3D printed surfaces show almost no visible layer lines, achieving fine surface texture. Smooth appearance is maintained even at 150 mm/s outer wall speed.
- Printing Stability: Heat distortion temperature 53°C (simple test), water absorption 0.1–0.3% (ASTM D570), extremely low shrinkage (XY direction: X: -0.1% / Y: +0.1%), virtually no warping, excellent long-term storage stability.
- High-Speed Compatibility: Optimized on high-speed 3D printers (e.g., X1 Carbon), recommended speeds: outer wall 150 mm/s, inner wall 350 mm/s, infill 450 mm/s, top layer 200 mm/s, first layer infill 105 mm/s. Can stably run up to 450 mm/s infill speed with proper temperature and cooling.
- User-Friendly Operation: Recommended nozzle temperature 195–235°C, heated bed 50–65°C (optional), cooling fan 70–100%, ambient humidity ≤20% RH. Odorless, compatible with various build surfaces.
- Compatibility: Diameter tolerance ±0.03 mm, suitable for 1.75 mm FDM 3D printers with both Bowden and direct drive extruders. Viscosity (190°C/2.16 kg) 7–10 g/10 min, density (25°C) 1.25 g/cm³.
- Color Options: Available in white, black, dark gray, cyan, blue, yellow, purple, green, orange, rose red, red, bright red, gold, silver, and other standard colors for 3D printing projects.
